Heloise Tunstall-Behrens is a composer, producer and performer of both electronic and acoustic music as well as a vocalist. Her sound covers contemporary classical, pop, experimental and timbral drone.

Recent works have focused on imagining a positive future in the face of climate change. She has led workshops with groups of young people, with older folk as well as intergenerational groups, aimed at generating visions of the world we want to live in. These visions have then fed through into musical works and performances. In 2023, she created ‘The Work of Many Hands’ alongside writer Robert Macfarlane and scientist Prof Ilan Kelman as part of a UCL Commission, which was sung by a childrens choir alongside a professional ensemble. In the same year, she wrote a sea shanty for Newlyn & Exchange Gallery’s ‘Storm Warning’ exhibition, collaborating with poet Ella Frears. In 2024, she led a songwriting workshop at Womad Festival with Earth Percent, culminating in a vision for a world beyond capitalism.

Other work for voices include compositions for vocal ensembles Howl, Yolk, Deep Throat choir and Blood Moon Project. Recent releases include ‘Night Creatures’ by Howl and Robert Macfarlane which was released on Tardigrade records in 2024. In 2016, she received Arts Council England funding to write ‘The Swarm’ with Auclair, a choral work about swarming honey bees exploring the dynamics of a collective decision making process. This was performed in Brunel Museum in 2016 and VAULT Festival in 2017, and was released on Amorphous Sounds in September 2020.

In terms of instrumental writing, recent performances include pieces for ensemble and solo piano for Riot Ensemble at Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival (HCMF) in 2020 and 2022. Electronic composition include multi-speaker piece, 'Petroglyph', which was premiered at HCMF 2019 on Huddersfield Immersive Sound System.

Her work often bridges the intersection between movement and sound. She has worked alongside Choreographer Hannah Wallace on ‘Groundworks’ in 2021 and Movement Artist Fernanda Munoz-Newsome on ‘GO GO GO, BEYOND’, a 2022 commission from The Roberts Institute of Arts as well as ‘Whirlpooling’, a 2022 commission from TBA21-Academy as part of ‘Oceans without Borders’ symposium in Cordoba, Spain.
